Our Purpose
At Mountain View, we believe our purpose in life is to know Christ and to make Him known to those around us. We derive this purpose from these verses in Philippians:
"That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead." – Phil. 3:10-11
Exalting God
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. – Revelation 4:11
God’s purpose of the whole creation is to bring honor and glory to Him. God’s church, purchased by Christ’s blood, and filled with His Spirit should have as its primary goal the glory and honor of God.
Edifying Believers
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. – 1 Corinthians 14:12
The primary function of the church, after glorifying God is to build up the church by careful and compassionate instruction of God’s Word and the exercise of its Spiritual gifting to strengthen the whole body.
Evangelizing
the World
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – Matthew 28:19-20
The Great Commission given by Jesus commands us to take the good news – the gospel to the whole world. Our commission is to make disciples among all the nations.
Encouraging Family
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: – 2 Peter 1:3
God’s Word is the source of all wisdom and knowledge and by it our lives can be complete. God’s first institution is the family. The application of God’s word to every area of our family life produces peace and a fruitful life.
